In my discussions with non-Mormons throughout my life, I’ve learned that one of the most common beliefs about Mormons is that we practice polygamy. In those discussions, I’ve always taken the opportunity to clarify that though polygamy was practiced during the mid-to-late 1800s and was a relevant part of our history, it has not been practiced in more than 100 years.

Given that I have some relatives who were early converts to the Mormon Church, it’s not surprising that one of my great-great-great-great-grandfathers practiced polygamy. Due to this history, I’ve taken the opportunity to learn more than just the ‘facts’ about polygamy but also what the experience was like for those practicing it.

On this site I’ve tried to compile some of the most relevant and useful information about the history and practice of Mormon polygamy. In addition, I wanted to include some of the more interesting things I had read about early Mormons’ reactions to the practice and their experiences in living the commandment.
